If the mag is installed, it will hit the mag preventing full rotation. Since a .45 mag is larger, it won't fit a 9/.40/.357 FCU due to that ledge, even with a .45 grip module.

To give you some reference, when the slide is on, the take down lever is at 180 degrees (horizontal) and at about 90 degrees when the lever is vertical. Once you have the take down lever inserted a bit, rotate the lever to 180 degrees while you finish inserting it. Do this is all without installing the slide.
Even without the guide rod problem the take down lever on a new 320 can be quite difficult to rotate. Typically the problem goes away after it wears in just a bit. Open slide, put gun in left hand and using right thumb push takedown lever from over the top of the gun. Much easier that way.
